As omicron continues to spread in our community, Ara Hauora and Here Toitū have come together to support families in need of an extra helping hand.

Tui Makoare-Iefata, Project Lead for Ara Hauora says: “When I called this family prior to visiting them for their appointment, they let me know they were isolating at home. Unfortunately, this meant I couldn’t see them in person, however when I asked how they were and if they needed assistance, it became clear they needed some support.”

“I got in touch with Here Toitū Team Lead Fonoti Eddie Muaulama, and he quickly sprung into action and organised some kai for the whānau. They were immensely grateful for the support.”

“While this was not what I was originally seeing the whānau for, taking care of their immediate needs was crucial to their health and wellbeing. That’s what Ara Hauora is about, providing wrap around support for whānau and addressing social and health needs.”

Fonoti Eddie Muaulama, Here Toitū Team Lead, says: “When I got the call from Tui saying there was a family of 10 isolating at home and needing some help, we were more than happy to provide assistance. Unfortunately, with so many whānau isolating at home, services such as food parcels can take some time to reach families. We used our contacts to get the family some kai and help ease their stress.”

About Ara Hauora
Ara Hauora is a whānau/family centred initiative, where a team of Nurses and Health Coaches collaborate and take mobile health services home to whānau who will benefit most through outreach. Support includes a wide range of services rather than being limited by time and/or a specific health issue.

This service is designed to work in partnership with ProCare’s general practices to identify and reduce barriers for whānau accessing their regular health and wellbeing services. The Ara Hauora team will work closely with general practices to identify whānau suitable for a home visit, offer a range of assistance and health checks, and start the kōrero of how their general practice can better support their health needs.
