GP/NP MRI Training

The ACC MRI programme gives GPs and Nurse Practitioners the skills to make direct referrals for high-tech images, for MRI scans (instead of requiring a referral to a specialist, before an MRI can be ordered)

ProCare has partnered with Pinnacle (in collaboration with ACC) to deliver the ACC MRI programme.

This programme allows trained GPs and Nurse Practitioners to refer patients directly for MRI imaging, reducing wait times and expediting a clear diagnosis and appropriate referral for treatment.

This toolkit provides diagnostic pathways and referral steps.

Frequently asked questions

Which patients are eligible for this service?

The patient has an injury to the cervical spine, lumbar spine or knee that meets the criteria outlined in the MRI Clinical Pathways.

The client has been assessed by the GPMRI Trained GP/NP as suitable for MRI Referral; and the Date of the Claim Lodgement with ACC (client injury) is not greater than six months.

The patient is 16 years or over.

Informed consent has been given for referral, either by competent client or by the person who has the legal right to make decisions on the client’s behalf.

What regions do you cover and & how do I register for the next training in my area?

We cover: Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Taranaki & Whanganui.

Register your attendance at the next training here.

Is there a cost to do the training or Profusion set-up?

No, the training and Profusion installation (the referral tool) set-up, is free.

I’ve received an email saying I have an “Outstanding MRI Referral/Overdue Claim". What does this mean?

The referrer needs to open Profusion and submit the “outcome,” for the practice to be paid and the referral closed off.

Simply click the Profusion button on the PMS toolbar or open the form and select the appropriate outcome. This will automatically send through the claim to ProCare for payment and close the referral off.

What if I need to edit or cancel a referral?

Please email mrienquiries@procare.co.nz with your request and we will log an IT-Ticket on your behalf.

It is important to log a request to cancel the referral (if the patient is not proceeding with the MRI) because you will be prompted to “submit an outcome” (thus generating a payment) for an MRI that never took place.
